CULTURE OF DEMOCRACY

not elections not elections alone

forming cabinets existence of the institutions

they are but aspects of democratic culture known

good as they are they arent alone in democratisations

strong pillars are those freedoms

exitance of republics and not kingdoms

we re learning it have been learning it

learning it hard bit by bit

the culture of democracy

in an African setting used to autocracy

on a sub-African black country

sometimes replete with nothing free

yet we are learning it

have we not tried, this feat

nearly twenty years of trying

falling and rising and dashing

havent we tried all this while

peoples government exists and is virile

this the culture thats faltering

innermost aspects yet mesmerising

freedoms of all sorts

a times miss we the goal as in sports

the beauty of all this is the rights:

to associate, hold opinion, express self on the bights

the culture is American

a presidential system they practiced

over two hundred years ours not yet twenty in the jerry can

no basis for comparatives if not to be teased

have we not tried in our own way country men

at least twenty uninterrupted governance years clean
