A female staff of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, (FAAN) attached to Yola International Airport, Jenniffer Luka, has been arrested by Adamawa police for alleged stealing BTAs of some intending pilgrims who are on their way to the holy land for the 2019 Hajj exercise in Saudi Arabia. Investigations revealed that the said officer popularly known as ‘Ramatu’ at Yola Airport met her Waterloo when she allegedly picked $300 (dollars) each from the luggage of her two victims in the process of searching for prohibited items sequel to their clearance for boarding the second batch of pilgrims plane. The two victims, Hafsatu Mohammed with passport number ‘A106006719 and Aishatu Alhaji Buba with passport number A09917513 from Yola North Local Government Area after the normal routine checking by the officer observed shortage in their Basic Traveling Allowance (BTA allowances) of $800 (Dollars) each by $300 each and raised alarm which attracted the attention of other security operatives at the scene. A security source who pleaded anonymity at the Airport said the incident occurred Monday and that the concerned officer was whisked away and thoroughly searched where the $600 Dollars with another N1,500 were found hidden neatly in her artificial hairstyle known as ‘attachment ‘covered with barrette cap. “At the initial stage, she pretended that she didn’t commit any theft on the intending pilgrims insisting that nothing was on her body. “But to the surprise of us all at the investigation room the said monies were traced concealed in her head covered with official barrette, there and then she became very weak sweating all over her body in shame,” the source added. Further findings revealed that, the Yola Airport management had issued a query on the erring officer which she answered before she was handed over to police for necessary action. Contacted on the development, Yola Airport Manager, Mr. Adamu M. Sheilk said as a department, they have done the needful and have forwarded the case to their corporate Head Quarters in Abuja for final decision. “Yes, it is true, there was a professional misconduct by one of our officer and we have packaged all needed and forwarded to our Head Quarters for further action. “I am not competent to speak on the matter here but l refer you to our General Manager Public Affairs in the Head Quarters in Abuja,” Sheilk explained. Confirming her arrest, the spokesman of Adamawa state Police Command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje said that the affected FAAN officer is in their custody undergoing interrogation at the Criminal Investigation Department, CID. Nguroje added that as soon as the operatives are done with the investigation, the officer will be taken to the court for prosecution.
